Business Objective

Customer is a renowned name for its car entertainment systems and accessories, specializing in the design and manufacturing of a range of equipment. It planned a system that brings car diagnostics and maintenance to the user’s smartphones and facilitates a clear view of the fleet for fleet management companies.

The client wanted to build a setup that provides ease in driving and maintaining vehicles, helping resolve issues quickly, and offering peace of mind to both customers and mechanics. To achieve this, the customer introduced an OBD (On-board diagnostics) system, a hardware solution for bringing data from the vehicle to the cloud. However, the client faced numerous challenges with their existing partner agency and sought a new partner:

  • With prior experience in IoT and fleet management.
  • Who could understand, structure, and devise system architecture for scalable mobile, web, and head unit applications and sync them with OBDs.
  • Who could develop a system for producing effective diagnostics and reporting outputs.
  • With rich experience in the design and development of mobile and web applications with Bluetooth.
  • Who could provide long-term development and enhancement support.

Challenges

The existing systems included mobile application for iOS and android, head unit app, its admin panel and a web panel for fleet management. The primary requirement of the mobile and head unit application was to have an offline support and hardware connection establishment. Features needed from the technology ecosystem were:

Chosen as a technology partner to overcome the challenges and build a holistic car diagnostic solution, FINOIT recommended a phased approach to meet the requirements of the client in developing the whole system. We studied every component and offered our solutions for each, as:

Mobile and Head Unit Application

App establishes bluetooth connection with OBD (On-board diagnostics) installed in the car, receives data from it, processes the data and shows appropriate analytics on the mobile dashboard. Mobile apps are available in iOS and android both. The application has following features:

  • Real-Time Data Monitoring: Continuously monitors the vehicle’s health in real time.
  • Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) Reading and Clearing: Identifies and clears trouble codes from the vehicle’s system.

  • Geolocation and GPS Tracking: Tracks the vehicle’s location and movements.
  • Vehicle Health Report: Gest comprehensive health reports of the vehicle.
  • User Profiles and Multi-Vehicle Support: Manages multiple vehicles and user profiles

Safety inspection

Safety inspection checks the vehicle’s condition and displays results after completing inspection, ascertaining whether the vehicle is in good condition or not. If a vehicle has any fault, then it notifies about the fault.

Current data

Realtime data and Summary data of the current trip which includes:

  • Current driving analytics
  • Trip summary
  • Fuel consumption
  • Trip time
  • Mileage and other analytics

Driving Data

Graphical analytics of driving data which includes:

  • Fuel consumption
  • Mileage
  • Speed
  • Rapid increase or decrease of the above driving metrics

Maintenance

Maintenance records can be added to the list which will further send reminders for the same.

Trip history of each trip is recorded and data is saved under this section. Users can check the details of each trip from this section.

Contact list

List of contacts could also be maintained in the application notifications.
